The Chongqing Women's Half Marathon 2020 kicked off on November 8 on Nanbin Road in Southwest China's Chongqing .
The event attracted about 4,800 participants, including 3,000 for the half marathon, 900 for the 10km run and 900 for the 5-km mini run.
Considering epidemic prevention and control, only Chongqing local women athletes or residents who have lived in Chongqing in the past 183 days were allowed to sign up for this year's event.
A large number of marathons were delayed or canceled this year due to COVID-19. Under these special circumstances, the sponsor formulated a rigorous plan for epidemic prevention and control and successfully held the race.
World famous woman marathon athlete Sun Yingjie, national record holder of the Beijing Marathon, led the race as the ambassador.
"The Chongqing Women's Half Marathon really deserves the honor of 'China's top women's marathon'. As a former professional marathon athlete, I feel proud to be invited and to cheer for every woman," she said.
Zhang Yan, Lan Xia and Ye Rui won the top three spots of the half marathon race. The winner, Zhang Yan, born in Chongqing, is now a university freshman majoring in Chinese literature.
This year marked the sixth event of the Chongqing Women's Half Marathon. In April, the Chongqing Women's Half Marathon was awarded the Road Race Bronze Label by IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations), and became China's first and only women's marathon certified by IAAF, as well as the world's third women's marathon certified by IAAF, following Japan's Nagoya Women's Marathon and Osaka Women's Marathon.
