A poverty alleviation themed exhibition kicked off on November 9 during the 798 Art Festival in Beijing, marking the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Happiness Project, a project of helping impoverished Chinese mothers.
The exhibition includes nine modules, presenting reporter Yu Quanxing's documentary photography of more than 1,300 needy mothers, progress reports from 29 provinces, and the changes to the mothers' lives which were recorded via data, documents and videos.
Among the works, children's paintings of their own mothers are one of the highlights of the exhibition. At the art classes sponsored by the Daqian Contemporary Art Center (DCAC), a famed art gallery in China, children learn to draw pictures, showing much artistic imagination as they portrayed their mothers' beauty.
The Happiness Project was launched in 1995 by the China Population Welfare Foundation, the China Family Planning Association and the Chinese Population News Agency, aiming to assist mothers in need, develop the family economy and help them get rid of poverty. To date, the project has covered 958 sites across the country and has helped 350,700 mothers.
